A breeding tool, not decor — and our original one. This is the classic straight-tube cave we developed over more than ten years of breeding plecos, still the #1 choice of breeders who buy from us. A tight, enclosed tunnel that reads exactly like the rock and root crevices cave-spawning plecos claim in the wild.

The tube shape does real work. A male backs in and seals the entrance with his body, where he guards the clutch and steers a steady flow of water over the eggs — the behavior that gets a male to commit and spawn.

Which fish it's for

• Medium size suits bristlenose (Ancistrus L181, L183, L144) and other similar-bodied plecos up to ~10 cm.

Note: A male should nearly fill the entrance — that snug fit matters more than extra space.

How to use

Rinse each cave before adding it to the tank. Set them on the substrate, or bury slightly so they sit stable, in low-flow, shaded spots. For breeding, space several apart so each male can hold his own territory.
