A chunky, stump-style hideout with more volume and a wider chamber than a straight log — and it can sit either horizontally or stand upright, so you can change how it reads in the scape and how fish use it. Stood vertical it becomes a hollow stump; laid flat it's a broad den. Either way it gives a fish a roomy, defensible retreat that lowers tension in a shared tank.

Its size and shape make it one of the most versatile shelters in the range — equally at home with fish, amphibians, and inverts.

Which fish it's for

• Cichlids and plecos

• Axolotls and crayfish, which suit the larger chamber especially well

• Bettas, catfish, and shrimp

Best in 15–50 gallon tanks.

How to use

Rinse before use. Place horizontally as a den or stand it upright as a hollow stump, on a stable base. Position to break sightlines and give a retreat away from busier areas.
